Peter Keetman | Shaping the World
Jungfernstieg Gallery
14 October to 2 November 2016
Once again this year, Jungfernstieg will be transformed into an outdoor gallery from 14 October to 2 November 2016. Together with the F.C. Gundlach Foundation, the House of Photography in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg and the Museum Folkwang in Essen, works by photographer Peter Keetman (1916 - 2005) are on show.
This outdoor exhibition is the prelude to the Peter Keetman retrospective. Designed World in the House of Photography from November 17, 2016 to February 14, 2017, where the life's work of one of the most influential German photographers of post-war modernism is presented for the first time.
Since 1949, Keetman has been one of the young savages of the fotoform group who developed a new language of photography. As the title of the exhibition Designed World expresses, Keetman's work brings together two central currents of these years: On the one hand, the modernist will to form, design, experiment and abstraction, on the other hand, a humanistic world relation and a turn towards nature, people and the city - right down to their elementary building blocks.
The exhibition shows how these two currents merge smoothly in Keetman's work.
