Uli Richter
World-class fashion from Berlin

Ephraim Palais Berlin

25 January – 10 March 2019

On the occasion of a donation, the special presentation in the Museum Ephraim-Palais is dedicated to a celebrity of the Berlin fashion scene.
Uli Richter from Potsdam is one of Berlin's most important fashion designers. His modern, straightforward style was an alternative to the opulent fashion of the post-war years - and an expression of a new self-image in Berlin.

Richter created wearable fashion from noble material combinations. With a pret-à-porter line, he was the first German designer to make his refined cuts accessible to a wider public. It is not least thanks to him that Berlin is once again being perceived internationally as a fashion metropolis. Renowned customers such as Princess Gracia Patricia von Monaco, Chancellor's wife Rut Brandt and actress and singer Hildegard Knef appreciated his designs.

Vintage photos and fashion drawings
Uli Richter's private archive documents his work in Berlin and the world since the early 1950s with numerous vintage photographs and fashion drawings. The Stadtmuseum Berlin would like to thank Richter for the generous donation of this archive with a special presentation at the Museum Ephraim-Palais. Selected objects from the donation as well as around a dozen of his models present Uli Richter's oeuvre and thus focus on an important piece of Berlin fashion and city history after 1945.

Numerous works by F.C. Gundlach are represented in the exhibition, from early black-and-white photographs to later color works.
