F.C. Gundlach Foundation
Founded by F.C. Gundlach in 2000, the foundation of the same name pursues the promotion of photography as an artistically and socially significant cultural asset. It looks after and presents both the collection and the photographic work of the founder as well as a large number of photographic collections, endowments and estates.
In close cooperation with the House of Photography in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, founded by F.C. Gundlach in 2003, which manages the core of his collection "The Image of Man in Photography" as well as his library on permanent loan, the foundation produces exhibitions, photo illustrated books and projects.
In my opinion, there is indeed a moral obligation on the collector to make parts or even the whole of his collection public – and not just to do the collector's vanity a favour. For me I have decided to give my collection to a foundation so that it will be continued in my spirit. It is therefore preserved as a living organism and can react to social changes, trends and eventualities.
