Promoting photography as a cultural asset is the central purpose of the F.C. Gundlach Foundation. Its activities include exhibitions, publications and other projects, as well as scientific research in the field of photography.
With the F.C. Gundlach Collection, the photographic estate of F.C. Gundlach and the image archives of other important photographers, the foundation has an extensive collection of photographic works and materials, which it presents and promotes to the public around the world. This is because "the importance of photography as the basis of modern communication, as a medium of documentation and, in particular, as a medium of art is constantly increasing in our visually oriented society. Photography is one of the most essential and formative achievements of industrial and post-industrial society." (F.C. Gundlach)

"Peter and the Wolf". Family concert as part of the exhibition "Lichtakkord. Andreas Herzau photographs the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra." with musicians from the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
A musical fairy tale comes to life: musicians from the Bamberger Symphoniker bring Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" to the Villa Dessauer in a special version for five woodwind instruments. Moderated in a child-friendly way and with theatrical elements, the ensemble itself becomes part of the story: an imaginative concert experience for the whole family. More information.
Guided tour of the exhibition "Lichtakkord. Andreas Herzau photographs the Bamberg Symphony," with Dr. Eleonora Cagol
Photographing something that cannot be seen! This was the challenge Andreas Herzau faced in 2014 when he accepted the invitation to photograph the commemorative volume for the 70th anniversary of the Bamberg Symphony. Since then, Andreas Herzau (1962 – 2024) accompanied the orchestra with his camera to rehearsals, concerts, and travels around the world.
