- 1962: Born in Mainz
- 1980–1983: Typography training and typesetter apprenticeship at the Tübinger Chronik, Tübingen
- 1983–1985: Typesetter, printing plate manufacturer, production manager at Dr. Cantzsche Druckerei, Stuttgart
- 1985–1986: Community service at the Tübingen Language Institute
- 1986–1987: Traineeship as political editor, Neuer Konkret Verlag, Hamburg
- 1987–1988: Political Editor, Neuer Konkret Verlag, Hamburg
- 1988–1990: Editor (Editor-in-Chief), Hamburger Rundschau, Hamburg
- 1991–1992: freelance author for various newspapers and magazines in German-speaking countries (Konkret, Der Freitag, Tages-Anzeiger) and turning to photography
