Das Magazin für die Buffa

The magazine for the Buffa

Our current Object of the Month is dedicated to Barbara Buffa, who passed away on April 4, 2026, at the age of 100.

From 1957 to 1981, Barbara Buffa headed the fashion department at Brigitte and shaped the look of West German women like no other. She enjoyed a close collaboration and friendship well into old age with F.C. Gundlach, who was exclusively under contract with Brigitte from 1966. Together, they filled hundreds of covers and thousands of pages for the women's magazine's fashion section, traveling the world for their photo shoots.

Inspired by the layout of Brigitte, the Barbara magazine was created in a small edition by her colleagues from the fashion editorial team for her retirement in 1981. As a homage, Barbara Buffa's unmistakable style was lovingly exaggerated over 20 pages. The magazine also features portraits of Buffa taken by F.C. Gundlach.

The behind-the-scenes shot from 1969 shows the two at work in Gran Canaria with editor Antje von der Heyde during a shoot with model Beschka Tolstrup.
