PPS. News, April 1983

The PPS-News served as an advertising leaflet for the PPS company, which was founded in 1971 by F.C. Gundlach. Today, the brochure offers a fascinating insight into the photographic scene of the early 1980s. It provides information about photography workshops – for example with Wolfgang Neeb – about the latest camera hardware offers for purchase or rental, about new releases in the photo bookshop, and current exhibitions in the PPS gallery, such as Eberhard Seeliger – 30 Years of Photojournalism for Stern.

The April 1983 issue features a full-bleed photograph by Erwin Blumenfeld on the cover, showing a woman's face behind a transparent veil. Particularly striking is the double-page image of a Wilfried Bauer motif, which he captured in Naples – finely printed and razor-sharp, the wide-angle shot of street children with puppies unfolds an astonishing visual impact. A fascinating document of the photographic culture of that era.
