For over five years, Hamburg-based filmmaker Eva Gerberding followed F.C. Gundlach with her camera. The film offers an exclusive glimpse into the work of this multifaceted photographer, who is not only considered a grand figure in German fashion photography, but also, as a collector, curator, and initiator, one of the most important visionaries of the medium of photography of his time.

For Gundlach, born in 1926 in Heinebach, North Hesse, Paris was the starting point of a remarkable career: he had his first exhibition there in 1951. He moved to Hamburg and, with photo essays for magazines such as Film und Frau and Brigitte , became one of the most important fashion photographers of the 20th century. Since the 1960s, Gundlach has also been active as an entrepreneur, collector, and curator. As early as 1976, he opened one of the first photography galleries in Germany. In 2003, he was appointed founding director of the House of Photography at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. Now 91 years old, he continues to successfully manage his F.C. Gundlach Foundation, which he established in 2000.

F.C. Gundlach photographed them all: Jean-Luc Godard, Romy Schneider, Maria Schell, Jean Cocteau, and Curd Jürgens. With his unique and distinctive style, he shaped four decades of fashion photography and influenced entire generations of photographers. In addition to his work in film and women's magazines, he contributed to renowned publications such as Brigitte , Twen , and Stern . His photographs can be found in current issues of L' Officiel, Glamour , and Vogue . F.C. Gundlach's photographic work is now represented in prestigious exhibition halls and collections worldwide.

Following the film premiere, there will be a discussion with photographers Barbara Klemm and Hans Hansen, as well as filmmaker Eva Gerberding. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Hubertus von Amelunxen (President of the European Graduate School, Malta/Switzerland, member of the Academy of Arts Berlin).
