F.C. Gundlach / Architecture

As part of the Fotopark Forchheim 2024 photo festival, the exhibition F.C. Gundlach / Architectures can be seen from 6.9. - 31.10.2024 in the Pfalzmuseum in the Kaiserpfalz.

F.C. Gundlach captured buildings from Berlin to Beirut, using them in his photographs as a cultural basso continuo from near and far. His works exhibited in Forchheim demonstrate the use of architecture as a design element in a particularly striking way: swimwear in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza, an extreme wide-angle perspective in front of the Ernst-Reuter-Platz subway station (a flagship of "New Berlin" ), a Falke dress at the foot of the Temple of Ramses II, a smart sheath dress against the backdrop of Oscar Niemeyer's newly built Brasília. F.C. Gundlach masterfully combines the model with the background.

F.C. Gundlach captured more than four decades of fashionable and social change in his photographs, from the return of elegance and glamour in post-war Germany to the liberating surge of free-spirited, emancipated fashion in the 1960s. Above all, however, the motif of travel stands as a fitting metaphor for F.C. Gundlach's life and work: On location, he encounters novel architectural backdrops in one shoot after another, for example in Giza, Paris, or Brazil.
