F.C. Gundlach – Around the World in Fashion

F.C. Gundlach – Around the World in Fashion

Vertical Gallery InterContinental Düsseldorf
January 27 to April 8, 2018

F.C. Gundlach is one of the most renowned fashion photographers of the 20th century. He traveled 500,000 miles and more around the world in his work as a fashion photographer. His models, light-footed and effortlessly stylish, still embody the spirit of boundless freedom. Gundlach's photographs have long been considered icons of fashion photography and have served as a model for generations of photographers.

His clients included the elegant post-war magazine Film und Frau, as well as major publications such as Brigitte , Stern , Quick, Twen , and Annabelle . With his photographs, Gundlach captured the spirit of an era and its generation, who yearned for the wider world. The camera was his constant companion from the very beginning. The great fashion capitals of Berlin, Paris, and New York were his second home.

Alongside fashion photography, Gundlach produced impressive travel reports. Long before the flood of mass tourism, he visited the pyramids of Egypt, the temple complexes of Angkor Wat, and Oscar Niemeyer's futuristic jungle city of Brasília. With great sensitivity, he incorporated these famous monuments into his architecturally sophisticated compositions.

The exhibition F.C. Gundlach: Around the World in Fashion fits perfectly into the bigger picture: in Düsseldorf, as a city of fashion, and in the InterContinental, whose guests and visitors are as international as the locations of the F.C. Gundlach photoshoots.
