Photographer F.C. Gundlach – founder of the House of Photography in Hamburg – is one of the most influential fashion photographers of his time. As early as 1956, he traveled on Lufthansa's first intercontinental flight from Hamburg to Rio de Janeiro. In South America, he created not only elegantly composed fashion photographs but also images of the impressive architecture of avant-garde beach houses and the futuristic-looking buildings of Brasília, the capital city designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The exhibition also showcases the land and people of a continent that experienced its breakthrough into modernity in the 1950s and early 1960s.
