Accompanying the exhibition Sammlung F.C. Gundlach: "Das Medium der Fotografie ist berechtigt, Denkanstöße zu geben" (The medium of photography is entitled to provide food for thought), which opened on June 19, 2015, at Contemporary Fine Arts in Berlin, Bruno Brunnet has published an extensive catalog with Hirmer Verlag. In addition to numerous reproductions of works and a text by Klaus Honnef, the catalog includes a conversation between F.C. Gundlach, Bruno Brunnet, and Wilhelm Schürmann.
F.C. Gundlach has assembled an outstanding collection of photographs and cross-media works by renowned contemporary artists. For the first time, it is now possible to reconstruct the interplay between the medium of photography and the paintings and sculptures of these artists. "Das Medium der Fotografie ist berechtigt, Denkanstöße zu geben." (The medium of photography is entitled to provide food for thought.) This was all Albert Oehlen would concede to the medium in 1986 – and thus inspired the photographer and passionate collector F.C. Gundlach to make further acquisitions of important artists from Büttner to Förg, from Oehlen to Polke. In their cross-media works, their anarchic will to express themselves, their wit, and their biting criticism took shape. With numerous illustrations, the volume provides an atmospheric insight into the spirit of their production conditions and conveys the fascinating breadth of the medium of photography.
