Neuzugänge in der Sammlung F.C. Gundlach: Nicole Hollmann

New additions to the F.C. Gundlach collection: Nicole Hollmann "Out of Focus" New York City

The F.C. Gundlach Collection is delighted to announce the acquisition of three large-format works by photographer Nicole Hollmann from her series "Out of Focus ." The vibrant metropolis of New York inspired Hollmann to transform its three-dimensional reality, with all its countless acoustic and olfactory facets, into two dimensions through the medium of photography. The result is a series of large-format photographs that verge on the realm of painting.

Nicole Hollmann's photographs do not impose a specific interpretation on the viewer or dictate how they should see the world around them. Rather, they invite viewers to fill the space left open by the reduced visual information with their own experiences and emotions. With her camera, Nicole Hollmann wants to show more than what is immediately visible. Her primary focus is on the impression that forms and, above all, colors evoke in the viewer. The personal visual language that emerges in this way is more precise than that of intrusive sharpness, which often conceals more than it reveals.

The "Out of Focus" concept has become an integral part of Nicole Hollmann's working method. She continues to apply it in places other than New York City—places that have far more to tell than the obvious. "Out of Focus" is available in book form.
