Jungfernstieg Gallery
October 14 to November 2, 2016
This year, from October 14th to November 2nd, 2016, the Jungfernstieg will once again be transformed into an outdoor gallery. In collaboration with the F.C. Gundlach Foundation, the House of Photography at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, and the Museum Folkwang in Essen, works by the photographer Peter Keetman (1916-2005) will be on display.
This outdoor exhibition is the prelude to the Peter Keetman retrospective. Designed World at the House of Photography from November 17, 2016 to February 14, 2017. For the first time, the life's work of one of the most influential German photographers of the post-war modern period will be presented in an overview.
Since 1949, Keetman had been one of the young, rebellious members of the "fotoform" group, who developed a new language of photography. As the exhibition title, "Shaped World ," suggests, Keetman's work brings together two central currents of these years: on the one hand, the modernist drive for form, design, experimentation, and abstraction; on the other hand, a humanistic worldview and a focus on nature, humanity, and the city—down to their most fundamental elements. The exhibition demonstrates how these two currents seamlessly merge in Keetman's work.
