Triennale Expanded: Zerstörung des Labors zu Gunsten des Experiments

Triennial Expanded: Destruction of the Laboratory in Favor of Experimentation

Design Center Hamburg
June 2nd – 8th, 2022

As part of the Triennial of Photography 2022 with the theme Currency, ten Hamburg photographers pose the question of which images will be relevant for the future through their series of works.

In everyday life and on social media, there is an unimaginable abundance of images, while at the same time we are witnessing the inflationary erosion of our values. Are there still any reliable visual media for approaching the truth? And what do the many photographers do when they receive hardly any interest from image databases? The exhibition title , "Destruction of the Laboratory in Favor of Experimentation," provocatively, boldly, and cheekily puts the old frameworks and forms of reception to the test. It's about playfully experimenting again, venturing into the unknown, leaving the realm of our preconceptions through the back door, and designing a visual world from the perspective of the future that seems sustainable and meaningful to us today.

The exhibited works explore the fragility of the current situation and address the courage to artistically engage with the constructed nature of reality. Ten series of works are presented by: Peter Bialobrzeski, Klaus Elle, Florian Geiss, Jörg Gläscher, Andreas Herzau, Pepa Hristova, Julia Knop, Henrik Spohler, Ruth Stoltenberg, and Alexandra Weber. Curated by Sebastian Lux.

Triennale Expanded, part of the 8th Triennial of Photography Hamburg, creates a platform for the local Hamburg photography scene. The program aims to showcase the diverse Hamburg photography scene to local, national, and international audiences, and to provide a temporary space for exchange and engagement with photography in and from Hamburg. Triennale Expanded kicks off with the Triennial's festival weekend, which takes place from June 2nd to 6th, 2022.

The exhibition is open daily from 11 am to 8 pm.
