For our current exhibition “F.C. Gundlach. You'll Never Watch Alone”, which is on display at the Bucerius Kunst Forum until August 16th, we sifted through numerous slides from our archive. In doing so, we came across large-format color transparencies that F.C. Gundlach photographed for Lufthansa's in-flight brochures.
The photographs were taken in the mid-1950s and offer a fascinating glimpse into the travel culture of the time. With their vibrant colors and carefully arranged dishes, they transport us into the culinary world and exclusive lifestyle of the early Jet Age.
The collaboration with Lufthansa proved to be a key to F.C. Gundlach's success: After his first commission in 1955, he turned down the offered permanent position and subsequently chose to be paid in miles, which would establish his global network and result in a multitude of worldwide assignments.
